This collection of interviews with the key artists of the surrealist Dadaist artistic movement features rare interviews & poetry readings with some of the leading lights of the movement – Marcel Duchamp, Tristan Tzara, Kurt Schwitters, Richard Huelsenbeck, Raoul Hausmann & Hans Arp.
A lot of the interviews are entirely in German & French, therefore unfortunately isolating listeners who don’t speak the language. The English language interviews are very interesting however, to anyone with even a passing interest in surrealist art, & is very illuminating of the short but far-reaching Dadaist movement to novices like myself. Although I suspect this CD will best be savoured by already interested parties.

There are some fascinating insights, and people familiar with the movement will no doubt find much to get their teeth into, but for a novice, it is just too much, too soon. It has certainly fuelled my curiosity, & the liner notes are a work of art in themselves. A lot of work has been put into this cd, & it is a lovingly crafted piece, but the lengthy foreign language interviews & the general intensity are reflected in the moderate mark. This is one for serious aficionados of the Dadaist movement only.
