Review: 'BOY KILL BOY'
'CIVILIAN'

-  Label: 'VERTIGO/ MERCURY (www.boykillboy.co.uk)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'July 2006'

Our Rating:
The stabbing riffs & crash-heavy drumming on opening track “back again” sets the scene well for this 11 track album of power-emo-pop.

The vocal harmonies sound nicely uncontrived throughout, and the riffs are unrelenting in pound. Standout tracks include “six minutes” where the band tip their concrete towards Blondie in an cheap synth & vocal workout.

One could either say the album blends seamlessly as a whole, or could just as easily point out that it is very formulaic & samey throughout too. The pace is broken a little by the arrival of track 6 “Ivy Parker” which takes it into Eleanor Rigby-esque Beatles territory in the verse before the chorus ramps up the emo vibe to the full. Track 8 “Killer” is a sleazy, dirty, neon lit joyride & is a highly satisfying listen. Standout track I reckon. This album will not disappoint fans, or emo heads in general (if there are any left who aren’t already familiar with Boy Kill Boy).
