THEY DROVE ME TO IT are creating a bit of a buzz at the moment, having got press attention from various prominent elements of the Alternative Press, including being cited by NME.com as one of the “artists to watch out for 2006”. However, on listening to their EP "Support in the Downtime", apart from vocalist Kelly B having lovely vocals, it’s hard to see what the fuss is about. The songs are ok, perhaps a bit boring, but they are certainly not worth all the furore being whipped up.
It might be the case that mainstream Alternative Rock is so saturated with the Four-Blokes-Wearing-Black-And-Looking-Sulky, that anything that deviates from the norm (in this case, being fronted by a female vocalist), is lauded as being experimental/original/new/exciting/fresh, etc. Which is a shame really. Ah well *sigh*, such is life...
