This is the debut release from BODIXA (you pronounce it “Boh-di-kuh”), the lasest Leeds-based purveyors of jangle-pop extraordinaire.
Fronted by the dual female combination of Anna Elias and Emily Norton, whose harmonies and Rickenbacker sounds bounce inside the four-beat in the name of indie-pop, we find four tracks that showcase the melodic, with perfectly pitched vocals bringing beauty to the fore in four well-crafted numbers.
The 80’s are remembered and reworked in the opener ‘Goodbye Winter’, and not just our own Top 40, but the Stateside contributions to indie from just when the decade was about to end. Favourable comparisons with the likes of 10,000 Maniacs apart, this is a catchy, breezy and radio-accessible start, with subtle changes in tempo working well with the easy flow. Delicacy is evident in the harmonies, but the song has an enduring strength and a catchy quality.
Acoustic arpeggios bring the harmonic vocals even further to the fore during the three other tracks. ‘Sing Your Bones’ has a gorgeous key change, and gathers momentum with a capo-assisted rhythm..

‘Nothing To Show’ has a shuffle behind it and more deft key changes. It’s euphonious, inoffensive, and has a slight tint of something all encompassing, as the music seeks to envelop the listener. It grows on you, washes over you, and you know the structure inside out, which makes it something of an odd and dreamlike security-blanket type listen. This doesn’t seek to break any new ground, but that is rendered unimportant by a slight strangeness. It’s ‘nice’ in the finest sense of the word.
