Another slab of homegrown punk-a-billy hewn from Scotland's finest band of the moment, Uncle John and Whitelock. 'Riverside' is the first single from the band since last year's stunning debut album, 'There Is Nothing Else' and, if anything, their ferocity has increased.
Singer Jacob Lovat's grizzled vocals are as intense as ever, his lyrics grow more fearsome by the day (“Slit my belly though my hands are tied, See you don't walk by the riverside”) and the lead guitar riff sounds like Scotty Moore trapped inside The Cramps.
Only available on lovely 7 inch yellow plastic, the flip side, '1879', is a little more sedate (if that's possible) than 'Riverside', and has a stunning wee Hammond run mid-song. Why these guys aren't already huge is beyond me. Terrifyingly brilliant.
