Probably not since Klaus Nomi has the world heard anyone sing with such fiery operatic passion as Romanian vocalist Cristina Necula (http://www.cristinanecula.com). Like Nomi, Necula uses keyboard-based backgrounds for her banshee wail of a voice. On tracks like "I'm Not the One" and "The E-mail," Necula's music has an oddly danceable rhythm, the contemporary synthesized beats both clashing and complementing her angelic crooning.
There's a darkness to this record which cannot be denied; however, it has a seductive, nearly vampiric pull. No matter what your taste or background in music is, there's no denying the ethereal loveliness of Necula's vocal work. On "One Thousand One Good-Byes," the opening feast, Necula's singing quickly stuns the senses with glass-shattering precision. Her singing is unbelievably beautiful; I kept playing the track repeatedly, simply in awe of its raw emotional power.

On "Encounter," Necula is chilling; there's an air of mourning in the song that draws you in its web of sadness. For once I actually stopped listening to the words and let the experience of hearing Necula envelop me. Her voice is incredibly gripping.
"You May Love Me" has a lighter touch; however, there's no decrease of feeling in Necula's vocals. From the first cut to the end, Necula has us amazed.
Hypnotized.
Enthralled.
Expect it on my top 10 of the year.
