This second collection of tunes from Californian knuckle chewers THE BRONX tears out of its Wichita promo cardboard spitting snarling and ripping pieces out of the front door. Lily-livered pussies like the Fratellis better keep their heads down.
Blasting out at a live-sounding but fiercely tight 190 bpm on "Small Stone", THE BRONX unit has a rock pulse driven by a lot of punk adrenaline, testosterone and steroids. Riffs are precision chiselled out of gun metal and vocal lines search out the throat ripping potential of over-clocked brains.
They have tunes too, and a hint of boogie ("White Guilt") – in the new world of re-callibrated punk n rock n grunge where simple unadorned aggression doesn’t impress anymore.
Gloriously retarded or depressingly conservative – your choice – the album is loads of bad fun and will be cherished and played to insensibility by anyone who had seen and loved them on tour.
Stop-at-homes and cynical critics will be checking their calendars and worrying they didn't forget to correct the decade when putting the clock back. The chronology is made even slippier but the fact that this is sometimes advertised as The Bronx, and sometimes as The Bronx II. It is a second full-length release (the first was in 2004) and track listing for the standard CD version is:
