Our Rating:

DELUKA have got a right little gem on their hands here. This 3-track download/7” white vinyl release is both refreshing and alive, all sonic urgency and killer delivery.

Bleeping, casio-infested warp-outs mash together for the minimalist groove that provides the soundtrack for Ellie’s sussed vocal compression. The whole machine-driven and downbeat compulsion of the title track oozes ice-cool elitism and a frantic and seductive sounding ‘Vote-with-your-feet’ type charm.

“It’s just a cover-up” she announces, and it’s plain through the stone cold paranoia that she doesn’t mean the latest in-demand Northern Soul sound!

The analogue synthesisers click to a faster beat as killer lyrics weave a simplistic but very effective frenzy across the shoot-em up sound FX of ‘Flashbacks’. Not only do this Birmingham 4-piece have a solid repertoire of tunes, the spiky stylo of their retro/electro freak scene soundtracks hint strongly at an outfit that can cut it live.

And see them live I undoubtedly will - before they become pop stars!
