Review: 'NEW RHODES'
'THE HISTORY OF BRITAIN'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '16th October 2006'

Our Rating:
I knew very little about New Rhodes before now, so if you were like me, you could probably do with a tiny bit of background info. Formed in 2001, there have been a number of new faces, names and record labels. Now on Salty Cat records, New Rhodes are obviously hoping that this newest single will lead to a higher level of recognition and appreciation.

'The History of Britain' is the first single from their first album of the same name, and I think as a lead single it is a bit of a disappointment. Evidently graduating from the same school of music as the likes of Boy Kill Boy and Keane, where The Smiths and Morrisey sit on a pedestal!

Lead singer James Williams certainly does a very good impression of him) Overall the verses are too meandering, the chorus is catchy and provides some much needed pace, but somehow isn't enough.

Having suitably slated this song I must say the next 2 tracks 'There's a Chance That I Missed' and 'Can't stay to Long' are much more enjoyable. While they don't really offer anything hugely different (which admittedly is an almost impossible task!) they are catchy and tuneful, and if you like this kind of music can you really ask for more!
