Having tightened up their edgy and paranoid sound on the stage, as well as raising their profile considerably by spending much of 2006 on the road, Morden contenders GOOD SHOES celebrated the start of the New Year with the release of their third single, and what a belter it is too!
Available either as a highly limited 4-track CD/album sampler, or (perhaps more reassuringly) on 7” vinyl (there are 2 versions, each with a different flip side), ‘The Photos On My Wall’ it has to be said, may prove rather difficult to get a hold of, but this cult-ish marketing strategy seems somehow appropriate for the jerky four-piece, and their solid-sounding punk ethic style.
Opening on top note with a chime, this bass heavy track wastes no time with an all-out assault on the senses. The staccato groove rattles the eardrums as it loops deliriously around the central riff like something you could jump up and down on your bed to.
Adults may prefer to concentrate on the slight reverb adding an extra kick to Rhys’s languid vocal delivery, heightening the sense of disaffection throughout, or the chiming, chorus-heavy guitar work that forms the clicking, bubbling undercurrent beneath a frenetic bass line. Save for brief moments of respite halfway in, your head is simply, comprehensively emptied of its contents - pushed or drowned out by the infectious quality of this full-on noise.

The ‘Attitude-o-meter’ dials are turned up to full; this is a short sharp shock – one that might leave you breathless despite clocking in at just under two minutes long – short for a pop record, but worth pointing out as part of the instantaneous appeal of a release that on every conceivable level has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appeal!
