Nottingham’s Todd Marriott has a talent for a tune. He has a contemporary consonant-avoiding voice and captures big chunks of any teenage audience he gets put in front of. A pop star, I guess. Light stuff with a bit of drama. “I love you more than anything, just come back with me tonight” sounds nicely straightforward. It's more aspirational Year 9/10 grown up than Sixth Form or College, but it’s none the worse for that. We all need our dreams, and these are finely spun for innocent hearts. The music isn’t pap, and the approach is fresh. William Bowerman has a frisky energy at the drum kit.

As a hit single it doesn’t/didn't force its way ahead of the pack, but it has enough of the keyboard, drums, light guitar and disco possibility to be an indie night favourite. Pink Squares is dreamier and Teenage Skin starts dancey before getting a bit morose. I’m going to hang onto my vinyl copy for later – on the reasonable assumption that they will break through into celebrityland sooner rather than later.
