Review: 'LONG BLONDES, THE'
'GIDDY STRATOSPHERES'

-  Label: 'ROUGH TRADE (www.roughtraderecords.com)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '5th February 2007'

Our Rating:
I was slightly confused when I saw this CD in the pile…I thought this song had already been released and ages ago – it was in 2004! But like so many other bands The Long Blondes, now more widely appreciated, are re-releasing this catchy little number to coincide with their upcoming tour.

Lead singer, Kate Jackson is the ultimate in retro glamour, looking like she would be at home in the 1970’s just as much in today’s modern society. Their music is similar in style; from the opening claps, ‘Giddy Stratospheres’ is undeniably a vivacious mix of the 70’s disco vibe with modern girly rock.

The requisite steady backdrop of drums with the jittery guitar riffs, make up the basic ingredients, the icing comes in the form of Jacksons lucid vocals. This sardonic song about a boy’s slightly lacklustre relationship – “she'll never lead him astray/ but it's the best she can do” is sure to be a hit with The Long Blonde newcomers, and will continue to be loved by (slightly smug) already established fans of the band.
