Review: 'NEUTRINOS, THE'
'BUILD HIM TILL HE BREAKS'

-  Label: 'Stockpile Records'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: 'October 30 2006'-  Catalogue No: 'STK003'

Our Rating:
I wonder if “Build Him Till He Breaks” is more SUZI QUATRO or more POLLY HARVEY? It’s a fine rattling noise, but it’s one that says “yes – us too” to some of the independent minded people of earlier days. Away from the full stomping sound and effortlessly right playing the song itself doesn’t really do what singles are made for. It’s good, yeh, but it doesn’t yell “PLAY ME AGAIN!” The singular chant of the chorus is just nearly the wrong side of generic but singer Karen Reilly makes more than a fist of it. More like an elbow to the side of the head and a knee in the groin while she's about it.

“Mother’s Mother Tongue” is more convincing material. The performance it’s racy and slashed. Its rhythmically more adventurous and all the better for it. The pr reference to SONIC YOUTH would be about right. There’s an album around that I haven’t heard. It’s called “One way Kiss” and I’m inclined to check the contents for which side of the single is most representative of what THE NEUTRINOS do when they're not tucked up in bed in Norwich.

Read this as strong encouragement to see if you like the album.
