Review: 'Circuits'
'Pistols At Dawn'

-  Label: 'Try Science'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '26th March 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'TRYS004'

Our Rating:
Circuits are a London four-piece specialising in twitchy new wave rock-pop of the kind that was in vogue about 25 years ago. They cite    Elvis Costello's Attractions as an influence and undeniably they share the same clipped, frantic interplay of guitar and bass that made E.C.'s band one of the most accomplished acts of the '80s.

The most glaring point of reference though, and one that may well prove to be their undoing, is The Police. Singer Benny has perfected an uncanny imitation of the freestyle yodelling that chatacterises Sting's vocal technique. If like me you've always found that blond muso's singing to be as immensely off-putting as his personality, you're unlikely to find Circuits any less irritating.

Of course there's no shortage of people that love The Police, as the excitement surrounding their recent reunion demonstrates. But Circuits are going to have to carve out a more distinctive and original sound for themselves if they want to avoid being pigeonholed as a glorified tribute band.
