Review: 'MUMM-RA'
'What Would Steve Do? (single)'

-  Label: 'Columbia Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '19th February 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'LC00162'

Our Rating:
This five piece are one of NME’s picks as the next big thing in 2007.

Despite taking their name from the American cartoon villain from Thundercats they are as quintessentially English as their home town of Bexhill-on-Sea.

This crisp and catchy tune ooses poppy soppiness to evoke 60s classics from The Kinks as well as the more wistful flavour of David Gedge’s The Wedding Present and Cinerama.

Like these bands Mumm-ra take the feel good factor from commonplace language, so when James New sings: "You are the best thing - you just changed everything" there’s no hidden meaning to uncover.

There’s a youthful bluster about their sound which will be hard to convincingly maintain but for the moment only the most hardened pessimist will be able to resist the charmingly sappy qualities of this song.
