New Yorkers NIGHTMARE OF YOU’S new single is a catchy and uplifting offering that is easy on the ear right from the opening surge. The high school subject matter that’s the rightful domain of poor quality emo outfits is reclaimed here in a rush of indie melodies and shifts in tempo that scream radio-friendliness from the rooftops. Singalong vocals emulsified in harmony are given free and screaming range over the keys, themselves broken up with a euphonious semi-acoustic guitar riff of some weight.
“Start a band, or throw a brick/You lazy hipsters make me sick” snipes front-man Brandon Reilly as the current sweeps the dead wood clear and the rock n roll ethic blows away the cobwebs. It’s a vaild comment, and one that marks out NIGHTMARES OF YOU as a band hovering above the had-it-too-good-for-too-long teenage dirtbag groups with mischeivous intent.
Not bad at all.
