Review: 'NAREZO, KAI'
'Vueltas'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '2007'

Our Rating:
Flamenco guitarist Kai Narezo (http://www.kainarezo.com) is easily among the best at his craft. There is an artistry to making music sing without words, to get people to feel emotions that they're not told. On "Vueltas," Narezo is able to do both effortlessly, never wasting a single note. You can call it Latin, world music, or even jazz: Narezo blends elements of all those genres into a seamless, captivating tapestry.

On "Cuatro Palabritas (Tangos)," Narezo's spiky, sprightly acoustic riffs produce an upbeat, uplifting rhythm; it is both soothing and invigorating at the same time. Narezo's playing is soft enough to cuddle our ears yet it spellbinds them as well with his lushly atmospheric chord progressions. "Bulerias De Kai" is even more dynamic. There is something wonderfully compelling about Narezo's mastery with the flamenco style; it's never generic or boring, always setting a mood. On "Bulerias De Kai," Narezo offers a robust performance that is among the album's highlights.

But, a true creative artist, Narezo isn't a one-trick pony. The title track is exhilarating world fusion with some of Narezo's most engaging guitar work. The slow-building "Lo Mio (Solea)" and the softly strummed "El Realejo (Rondena)" are moody, even romantic works that add other flavors to Narezo's plate. This is gorgeous, absolutely stunning music.
