Following the cult success of debut album ‘Gulag Orkestar’ last November, 21year old Balkan-folk DIY enthusiast Zach Condon offers up a track from the ‘Lon Gisland’ EP to tide us over ‘til the follow up is released at the end of the year.
The reason for the buzz currently surrounding BEIRUT is evident right from the start of this marvellously creative one man band’s hypnotic grip on the senses.
‘Elephant Gun’ is an intoxicating tapestry of horns, accordion and many other instruments, whilst underneath, a military tattoo hammered out on the snares is offset by the crash of hand-held cymbals.
Like an acid-headed brass band with Romany blood, this is a proper head-spinner.
It’s backed with a new song, the dreamy ‘Transatlantique’ as well as a half-cut cover of Jacques Brel’s ‘Le Moribond’
