James Islip and Andy Abbott are reunited on this crunchy vinyl picture discus with former KILL YOURSELF buddy Giles Bailey (more recently of DANANANANACKROYD). I must say it does sound more TANK WITH WORDS than anything. Abbott's baritone Danelectro guitar and Islip's furious drum sound are archetypal THAT FUCKING TANK - unpredictable, telepathically co-ordinated spontaneity - and that's the reason you would want to own this. It had looked as if they were winding the project down, but this gives it a whole new kick in the sweat glands.
THAT AWESOME MAGNET puts the strangulated voice right up in the firing line at bar 1 beat 3 and that weird guitar judders onslaughts from all sides in each of its angry voices. The vocal track dives around in splendidly bewildering fashion and (among other things) spends a little time recapturing some classic New York punk stylings. Its five minutes 45 also packs in all the best of THAT FUCKING TANK's moves, like some kind of edited highlights stream of goals and fouls. Splendid fun for birthday parties and Sadistic Karaoke (advanced).

Amazingly FASCIST BECAUSE BEAUTIFUL is even better, mopping up tricks that hadn't figured in MAGNET and bringing some fresh noises into the fray. These include a quiet section and an impression of what I imagine THAT FUCKING TANK's van sounds like on tour, roaring down the Autobahn as it approaches escape velocity. You've gotta love it. Sadly Giles doesn’t make an appearance - discretion, valour, and better parts having being invoked I suppose.
