Review: 'RIVERA, KHALID'
'Every Nite'

-  Label: 'Bluleaf Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '2006'

Our Rating:
While I'm really not one for reviewing CD singles, I certainly enjoy listening to them, especially when they bring back memories of the '70s and '80s, the decades of the 12" vinyl and extended dance cuts. You hardly find those anymore; maybe I'm getting old, but I fail to see how their gradual disappearance has made the world a better place.

Khalid Rivera (http://www.bluleafrecordings.com) certainly would've fit into the disco scenes of the day. Listening to both versions of "Every Nite" here certainly made me a tad sentimental, looking fondly back at the days when there was nothing more exciting than clubbing. The reason why I am writing about this particular CD single, when I usually don't, is because Rivera can honestly sing. This is not some cookie-cutter pretty boy with plastic soul. Instead, Rivera has a big, passionate voice, a cross between Rick Astley and Andy Bell of Erasure.

The "Radio Mix" of "Every Nite" has enough poppy keyboards to throb jubilantly on the FM dial; it's just the right amount of hook and minute length. The "Fletcher Remix," on the other hand, increases the bpms, giving you a high-energy burst of disco love that will probably keep you awake the whole night. Good times.
