Review: 'SKY LARKIN'
'Molten/Keepsakes'

-  Label: 'Dance To The Radio (www.dancetotheradio.com)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '15th Oct 2007 - 7'-  Catalogue No: 'DTTR037'

Our Rating:
The second single from attention grabbing Leeds trio SKY LARKIN is every bit as impressive as their superb debut ‘One Of Two’.

Again there are a limited number of 7” singles up for grabs. ‘Molten’ thunders in on a big drum kick before closed hi-hats crashing against the wall of storming guitar. Katie’s lead vocal spells 80’s urgency, as does her Korg playing style.

A delicious, atonal guitar hook and a wonky middle eight drop out to leave the cymballistic bass-bones of the track alone in step with the lyrics, but there’s an extra gear that lifts the lid off the whole tune. It’s a corking record.

The quickening electronic heatbeat of reverse side ‘Keepsakes’ races and sighs to a pounding disco-casio stomp before it chunners to an abrupt vocal halt. Echoing drop-outs and cymbal crashes accentuate the lurching chaos through some deft changes of tempo despite the DIY feel.

One of DTTR’s hottest prospects, SKY LARKIN have an odd yet intriguing sound, as well as instant pop appeal. They are well worth a listen.
