Review: 'BEARSUIT'
'Foxy Boxer'

-  Label: 'Fantastic Plastic (www.myspace.com/bearsuit)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '3rd December 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'FP 7080 (Ltd. 7"/Download)'

Our Rating:

From Norwich, real percussion and synthesiser handclaps bob and weave and word games and rollercoaster ride screams come distorted and deep in the mix (“Whhoo…Hey!…Ohyeahh!” etc). The 5-strong indie outfit make use of a varied assortment of instruments, including one of them keyboards you hold like a guitar, an accordion, a cornet and a theremin, as well as the violin. The percussion also goes beyond a 5-piece kit to include kettledrums and the like.

However, it’s the retro-electronic sound that predominates on this lightweight and ultimately pointless release. As the song chugs and bleeps along, the feeling of apathy is almost tangible, but this is the sound of kids that haven’t yet life take a swing at them singing about things they’ve never felt. The point of the hook-line is lost somewhere along the way. It’s not surprising that the end results are so transparent, and the song sounds so weak
