Does the world need another Charlotte Hatherley single? Probably not, but at least she's making an effort.
There is evidence here that Hatherley is looking at expanding the sound; this is more than just an acoustic number. This is quite orchestral, and it would seem that the intention here is to create something lush, or perhaps a bit dark. This song is unremarkable and wouldn't stand up in and amongst the Nashes of the world, but at the same time still lacks the creativity to be taken seriously.
Nick Cave style grim-hummings echo in the background before the band kick in prolong the song by at least one unnecessary minute. It's an improvement from the none-songs that she has unleashed on us since she was released from Ash, and it definitely indicates a progression for her. At the same time, it's a rambling ballad with an unforgettable chorus, and it just doesn't really work. This sort of thing is being done so much better by so many people.
