Review: 'UNTITLED MUSICAL PROJECT'
'UNTITLED MUSICAL PROJECT'

-  Label: 'Tigertrap Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'November 5 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'GRRR CD16'

Our Rating:
"We've heard it all / We've heard it all before" shout UNITITLED MUSICAL PROJECT on opening track "The People Versus Michael Miller".

And up to a point they are quite right. Huge rasping bass line, splashy cymbals, hammered drum kit and splenetic bursts of guitar while our hero shouts stylishly along at eight words to the bar.

It's got energy. It's got commitment. It's a new band doing an old but popular trick, very well.

Perhaps I sigh at the lack of ambition, and feel tired for the adoption of such a well-worn genre for expressing youthful exuberance and resistance. But it's a damn sight more exciting than a Thin Lizzy Tribute band. For this we should be grateful.

Also on the plus side there is bit of a twist in the bass line (if not its amp settings) for "The People Versus Michael Miller". And note the release date, UK gunpowder fans (long gone though it is).

"The A Minor Pentatonic Scale" continues the pattern of the opener and good titling continues through "Endless Deodorant and Bad Shoes".

By "It's Not Credible To Be So Intelligible" at track 6 I'm still happy with the titles but the relentless " why change the bass sound when it worked on the first five tracks" approach has palled a bit. "Lowest Prices In Europe! Guaranteed!!" picks up the tempo a bit and the feel of an explosive live set is firmly established.

Closing track "I May Not Be Jimi Hendrix But At Least I'm Still Alive" reminds us that Kieran Duffy's guitar playing has been nimble throughout and probably the best thing about the band overall.
