Review: 'BRITISH SEA POWER'
'WAVING FLAGS'

-  Label: 'ROUGH TRADE (www.roughtraderecords.com)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '14th January 2008'-  Catalogue No: 'RTRADSCD416'

Our Rating:
“Are you of legal drinking age?/On minimum wage?/Well, welcome in.”

The third album may well be the key. Recently it's worked for Interpol, The Cribs and Kings of Leon. And now British Sea Power are back after a forgettable second, and they've brought us their 'A Design For Life.' This is a festival anthem in the making – anyone with a flag will be waving it happily and shouting along with the chorus. It might well be enough to make their name this summer, even if this sly-dig of a song will be interpreted as a celebration.

It has all the components of a great British Sea Power song; a catchy chorus, an epic-feeling of waves crashing against a shore to the point of euphoria, and just a little bit geeky. But it's super-sized this time – with full on choral wails and huge string sections. BSP have clearly looked at what they do best and come up with their best single to date. The album's a cracker as well – a very welcome return.
