Review: 'IT HUGS BACK'
'Evergreen'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'Monday 26th November 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'Pure 212 (7"single/DL)'

Our Rating:

Too Pure’s latest worldwide signings hail from Kent, and ‘Early Evening’ is their third single, following in the footsteps of Rob Da Bank endorsed debut ‘Lights In The Trees’, and its successor ‘Carefully’, which came out on the band’s own label, ‘Safe & Sound’.

Multi-layered, and laid back in the extreme, the A-side handclaps and chimes like a lullaby, an acoustic guitar and whispered lead vocals woven into the low-key drama. There’s a pause before the melodic shuffle, and brassy synths gush forth like tidal waves, the vocals all but left behind in the distance. The deceptively lightweight intro gives way to an absorbing tapestry of layered sound.

Reverse side ‘Saving’ begins with a feedback whine. Punctuated by slow-burning electric guitars that skip out the rhythm, it washes away complications in the mind and could even be proven to relieve stress. Once again, the vocals disappear as the song punches its way through hoovering noises on the way to a truly subsonic climax.
