Any EP with an opening track called ‘Either This Wallpaper Goes or I Do’ is more or less guaranteed to be good. However, Nephu Huzzband’s debut offering marks them out as something truly special. At their best (the fierce energy of ‘Untitled One’ particularly standing out) they remind this reviewer of The Cure and Interpol with out the dodgy gothic leanings. Lead single ‘Papers’ overflows with exasperated wails and frantic guitars whilst the aforementioned vocal refrain ‘Either This Wallpaper . . .’ is one of the best hooks to land on my doormat this year. The only criticism that can be levelled at Nephu Huzzband is that all the tracks are fairly similar. But when the formula is this good why mess with it? As they say, if aint broke, don’t fix it.
