Review: 'MAMAN EST MORTE (feat.HARRIET TRICOLEUR)'
'WAKE UP'

-  Label: 'LAND SPEED RECORDS (www.myspace.com/mamanestmorte)'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '10th March 2008'

Our Rating:
With an early PJ Harvey-esque sound and an unusually sombre name it seems MAMAN EST MORTE have created a band with a style of there own to say the least.

Taking their name from the existential French novel, ‘The Stranger’, the themes of this clever story are conveyed through the band, masked in angst, and conveyed through their rather hypnotic melodies.

With their sinister synthesisers fuelling the background, again adding to their morbid band name ‘Mother is dead’ English translation, this single, ‘Wake Up’, seems to evoke a feeling of the unknown. As the music began, I felt thrown into the immediacy of the song and with no build up or introduction, ‘Wake up’ seemed to provide exactly that. A wake up call.

Mamen est Morte are bringing something to the music world that is neither alive nor dead. This is something else. I’m not sure quite what it is yet but it at least gets a tick for being anything but ordinary.
