Here we have a release from the land of the 'not bad' song. That is, a song that is well put together, isn't annoying, but at the same time doesn't make you think that your life is about to change. It's hard to imagine that anyone would love this electro-rock effort, but it's possible to see how many could like it. 'Wake Up' is the sound of a sedate Courtney Love rasping through an electro number. It's not quite as seedy or dark as The Kills, but it's in the same mould.
If you were at a club night, you wouldn't resent this song. You wouldn't rush to find out what it was either. There's nothing memorable about it – it's lyrically uninteresting, but also inoffensive, which it's hard to believe it was the point. There's nothing to respond to here, and this is a song that will clearly fall under the radar.
