Review: 'BRITISH SEA POWER'
'NO LUCIFER'

-  Label: 'ROUGH TRADE (www.roughtraderecords.com)'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '10th March 2008'

Our Rating:
It's been an absolute pleasure having a revitalised British Sea Power back this year. Recent album 'Do You Like Rock Music?' has proved that they still have the capabilities to make great nature-pop anthems, and second single 'No Lucifer!' I had ear-marked as an album highlight from the first listen.

If you think you've heard the basis of this song before (the repeated 'Easy!' chant that remains in your head merely seconds into the first listen), it's because it's the chant that veteran wrestler Big Daddy was serenaded with by his fans. It's in complete contrast to the rather sweet sounding vocals, and dramatic sound-scape that is the BSP trademark. Aside from the chant that could charm the football terraces, this is a catchy, uplifting song that manages to both rock and be beautiful at various points. With a bit of radio air-play, this song would be a deserved hit.

With 'Waving Flags' already out there, British Sea Power can be fairly confident heading out to the festivals this year – perhaps for the first time in their career they have the set of anthems that could earmark them as being a truly brilliant band. They have mastered doing what they do at last, and with singles like this, 2008 should be an extremely exciting one for BSP.
