Review: 'YIKES!'
'Whoa Comas/Blood Bomb EP'

-  Label: 'Kill Shaman Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'September 2007'-  Catalogue No: 'KSR24'

Our Rating:
San Francisco party militant John Dwyer last rattled my cage at The Fenton in Leeds as principal crowd assault mechanism in COACHWHIPS. It was massive fun.

And here he is again in the belated review pile with YIKES! Also huge fun.

YIKES! on this release are are aforementioned Dwyer, plus guitarist Eric Park and drummer Mike Donovan. The simple demented thrash is still at the heart of things. The vocal is scrunched up in distortion and and the signal to noise ration is so far over to noise that noise is the signal. It's physical, visceral, short, sharp and shocked.

As a disembodied choice from the racks of product before you in High Street Shop X, a purchase of Whoa Comas would be a wanton act of carelessness. As an act of faith in the power of madness or as an expression of devotion at the end of a sweat-lashed gig in a small room, buying this would be the only thing to do.

It is, God Bless It, 7 tracks of compressed mayhem played with bravado, great timing and total abandon. If you know your PINK AND BROWN you already have this. If you are just starting to notice UK bands like KILL YOURSELF and PULLED ABPART BY HORSES you should make the internet pilgrimage to California and get yourself a copy, looking out for a blistering gig in a murky corner of your own town sometime soon.
