Our Rating:
For anyone yet to be initiated into the world of LIGHTSPEED CHAMPION (aka Dev Hynes), this is the perfect introduction. Just make sure you listen carefully, okay? It's very easy to jump to the wrong conclusion, as I did when I reviewed previous release 'Tell me what it's worth' earlier in the year. His songs are deceptively dark, and I was overcome by the tweeness of it all, and failed to have a closer listen. The album rectified this, and I apologised on these very pages for my quick judgement.

It would be easy to make the same mistake with 'Galaxy of the Lost.' The opening refrain "I feel better now I've found you," does sound sickly sweet, especially with the string laden backing. But this isn't a love song per se - yep, there are strings and pianos, and rather sweet backing vocals as well.

It's a well crooned tune with pop sensibilities, but it's just about the downsides of excess. "When we kiss and I'm sick in your mouth," he sings sweetly, as part of this paradoxical creation. Everything but the content has twee indie leanings (the very ones that fooled me into thinking he was terrible on the first listen). It's pop - but not as we know it. It contains lyrical wit, compositions you can get lost in, and at the same time manages to be both endearing and creepy simulataneously. It's as oxymoronic as music gets - so make sure you take this opportunity to find out more.
