Review: 'Alfonzo'
'Shuma / What's Happening?'

-  Label: 'D-Set Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '11th August'

Our Rating:
This 2 track serving from Alfonzo has gone down a treat to these ears. Bringing to mind the sound of NME-rock circa 2003 (stick with me here) and holding onto the loose licks and full spirit of that time, "Shuma" has a rock and roll spirit that is irresistable.

B-side "What's Happening?" is another ride through a wide array of influences; taking in The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes and a fair dose of prog - the opening riff could be King Crimson! Luckily they have a Crimson fan here, so this all adds up to an enjoyable listen.

All in all, an excellent debut. Only downsides are the slightly dated nature of the music - will Bloc Party fans go for this - and the very demo-like packagaing. But I'm sure this is something that will be sorted by the time the single is out there.

Check this band out, they show a huge amount of potential and they're definitely worthy of your further attention.
