“If The News Makes You Sad, Don’t Watch It”

Jamie, Ian, Arne, Rory, Gill, Dave & Andy are Broken Records from the mighty Edinburgh. Using a range of instruments including guitars, bass, violin, cello, accordion, mandolin, piano, trumpet, glockenspiel and drums, they create a sound combining traditional European folk with modern Scottish alternative music.

I find the music unlike anything from the current crop of breaking artists interesting and fresh, it conjures thoughts of relaxing evenings around campfires with friends. The strings guide you though a dreamlike state as memories of old friends and past conquests surround you. Similar to Ray LaMontagne in places these folks march to their own beat with voices of experience that sooth you

“If The News Makes You Sad, Don’t Watch It” is a brilliant piece of music haunting in places with powerful bass lines and pounding drums that drive their point home. The staccato strings bring a delicate tone to the whole event. .

“Lessons never learnt” is a campfire classic for all the wanna be museos across the land. The absence of drums isn’t noticed as the beautiful vocals add a rhythm of their own, while the strings give an ambience of hope to us all.
