Review: 'REEMER'
'Maniac'

-  Label: 'Reaction'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'July 21st'

Our Rating:
This CD was always destined for good things, I do a lot of my listening in the car and this morning, as Maniac was making its way to the top of the pile things started to change in the band's favour, firstly the sun came out from behind a cloud, causing me to open the sun roof and wind down my window a little and popping on my sunglasses...

A few minutes later I slid the CD in and giving a band I've never seen nor heard of the benefit of the doubt I cranked it, just a little bit. I'm glad I did as it turns out that I had unwittingly created the perfect listening environment for a pop-rock/punk gem.

The opening guitar chords burst into life, the drums kicked in and the song launched into a short verse before the epic chorus took off. 30 seconds later I was singing along to the second chorus and joining in with all the pop-punk 'whoahs!' and most likely looking like a complete plonker!

The B-side, 'Summer Sun' shows a more technical proficiency to the band, front-man Dave has a great technical vocal ability and the drums have a feel of At The Drive In. There's a lot more going on in this song but it doesn't sound confusing.

If I had to offer any criticism I'd say the band could possibly benefit from a slightly more poppy production, in much the same way that Blink 182 moved from Dude Ranch to a much more polished sound with Enema Of The State and earned a heap of new fans. That said the sound they have gone with for this single is much more raw and exciting and if you like your music loud, catchy and fun you've probably just found your new favourite band kids!

I listened to both tracks back to back three times this morning and they got better with each listen so who knows how hooked I'll be when I hear the album, due out in September.
