Keltica are a pop/rock band from Ireland, though are currently based in London. “The Greatest Games” is their newest offering, and is dedicated to the British Olympic Team. As the proceeds of the single are to go to the British Olympic Appeal this is a charity record and therefore I suppose beyond reproach.

Ignoring that though, is this track the stirring anthem, set to inspire our athletes to glory in Beijing that it should be?

Sadly, no it is not. It sits firmly in bland pop/rock territory. It is not thoroughly horrid, just insipid. The vocals are the strongest aspect of the sound, being akin to The Cranberries’ Dolores O’Riordan. It is a shame that she does not have a more memorable song to wrap her larynx around.
