Review: 'GRAMMATICS'
'NEW FRANCHISE'

-  Label: 'Dance To The Radio'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'August 4th 2008'-  Catalogue No: 'DTTR042'

Our Rating:
Owen Brinley is creating a singular voice and a distinctive sound for a band who are creatively way ahead of the pack.

This single will be free to download, but the liberty should give no cause whatever to disregard it. A little over four minutes, it is equally free of repetition, hesitation or uncertain moment.

The freshness, the intensity, the glorious amalgam of Emilia Ergin's cello and Rory O'Hara's bass, with lasciviously spread-eagled electronic embellishments are bustled forward by Dominic Ord's perfect drumming. There is a steadily growing chorus of voices in the last section. All ends on tip toe at a cliff edge with Brinley's solo voice, suddenly, dangerously, abandoned singing "good" in an uncharacteristically dry tone. A superb touch.

The band are smart enough to know that the root meaning of the word franchise is freedom. They are romantic and mysterious enough to fill the lyrics and the music, with orchids and romance. "I pounce on chance ... I long for romance". Hearts will be broken.
