Our Rating:
Here is another example of the fine line drawn between being influenced by a style of music and emulating it down to a tee. ‘All You Really Have To Do’ takes the swirling big guitar licks and soulful vocals of MC5, and gives a general ‘let’s dance’ kind of groove. It’s a song unaware of the millennium, and would no doubt be shocked to see a review of itself on the internet, for it is borne of a time when computers filled rooms and people spent more time on acid than online. It’s vaguely psychedelic-garage rock, and you’ve definitely heard it before.

It’s so authentic it sounds like a cover version, making The Von Bondies sound like genre trailblazers. If you want rock ‘n’ soul, I recommend The Bellrays. This is the equivalent of tracing over the words of all the Harry Potter books in the hope that it’ll make you Rowling’s millions. It’s an alright song, but it’s hard to work out what the point is.
