Review: 'MORTON, FINLAY'
'Back To Basics'

-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'September 2008'

Our Rating:
Featuring a slew of accomplished musicians, including Greg Bone (guitar) who has appeared with Sting and Kylie, that all took time off from their busy touring schedules to appear with Finlay, Back To Basics has an overwhelming Tom Petty feel to it, conjuring comparisons to such greats as Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

Opening track Scary Monsters is a fantastically tender song complete with the inspired choice to include gospel singers in the chorus. The Devil (Ain't Getting My Soul) flirts with more bluesy elements while Real Long Day shows off some fine guitar work and lyrical openness.

Back To Basics is a treat. It's very emotionally driven, musically accomplished and continually varied.
