At last, an indie-rock band to show some interest in. It’s a fine line between being a normal band and a real proposition, and it would seem that Southampton’s THE MADDISONS have potential. ‘The Witch’ kicks in like a more aggressive version of The Walkmen, but settles down into some rather infectious ‘oooh’s’ and a more guitar-based Last Shadow Puppets effort.
Harry Burgess’ vocal delivery is like Alex Turner sucking some incredibly sour sweets. It’s dour to begin with, but grows throughout the song, first into a distorted, under-stated second version before bursting out into a yearning more desperate melody. They fit quite a lot into just over two minutes, and it’s a song that is over before you think it should be. This is good – this means it leaves you wanting more. It’s a strong band effort, with all instruments being played in a spiky, tight fashion.

These guys are all under eighteen and it seems like they’re already on the right tracks. They’re definitely a good band, who have the potential to appeal to more than just a room full of their mates. It’s nice to know that there is still room for imagination within the genre.
