W&H were by no means the only organ to be sent into raptures by trailer park Texan trio WHITE DENIM'S debut album 'Workout Holiday' and they've built on it since with rapturously-received UK tours in April and July confirming their reputation as one of the underground's most sought after names during 2008.
Scrambling to such a lofty perch can have its' downside, of course, for a less-than-startling second album – or worse still, doing a Stone Roses with it – can soon have fans and critics alike heading for the hills. So, post-debut, it's all about a holding operation, which is where WD'S third-from-the-album single 'Shake Shake Shake' comes in: something to keep the fire stoked while our Texan heroes regroup and their assembly line of feverish ideas stands still long enough for them to grab the required components for a fresh batch of tunes.

Which isn't to denigrate 'Shake Shake Shake', because with its' flinty, bitten-off guitar scraping, breathless call'n'response vocals, Gang Of Four-bothering basslines and Josh Block's furious pounding, it's still got plenty going for it. The only trouble is, this time round it's really not that much of a song.
Still, with more ideas shoved remorselessly into under 150 seconds than many bands manage in twelve months, we shouldn't rag White Denim too much. 'Shake Shake Shake' may be the very epitome of the third single from a hit album but its' sheer fervent energy rush gets 'em through and it's still exhilarating enough to register. For the time being, that'll do.
