Review: 'GRAMMATICS'
'THE VAGUE ARCHIVE'

-  Label: 'Dance To The Radio'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '24th November 2008'-  Catalogue No: 'DTTR048CD (and limited edition vinyl)'

Our Rating:
Owen Brinley, Dominic Ord, Rory O'Hara and Emilia Ergin are producing ever-better singles on a gentle progress towards what can't fail to be a euphorically good pop album. "The Vague Archive" is the fourth, and will already be selling out (as each of it fellows has done). Mild hysteria is rising in young hearts across the internet and new fans are being smitten on tour dates across the country.

The sound is dramatic urgent and irresistible. Emilia Ergin's attacking cello and Owen Brinley's clear, soul-wrenching voice define the now-distinctive, mature sound of a band at their peak. It's a grand tune with a racing tempo that mimics summer's unkind rush into autumn. A slow final section allows the delightful video (directed by Matt Maude) to turn the autumnal Yorkshire fields into early winter. The unobtrusive production by James Kenosha is outstanding - deep, rich and precise. That lustrous slow section (missing form the radio edit) is a joy.

An inventive remix by AnteAter (Tom Woodhead, the singer form ¡FORWARD,RUSSIA!) graces the other side. It stands up very well as a fine track in its own right.
