Review: 'WEIGHTLIFTERS,THE'
'O MY STARS'

-  Label: 'http://www.theweightlifters.com/'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '2008'

Our Rating:
The Weightlifters is Chicago based indie-pop singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist, Adam McLaughlin. He has a drummer and his wife supplies handclaps and cowbells (!) but essentially this is a solo record.

Adam was once a guitarist for a band Idle Wilds from Philadelphia after which there was what his press release calls "a decade hiatus from any public displays of music-making". The assumption must be that privately he was practicing like crazy.

'O My Stars' is the second record by The Weightlifters, the first being a self produced/self relased EP called 'Last of the Sunday Drivers'.

It has a mellow and tuneful West Coast vibe to it which closely resembles the Byrdsian homages of Teenage Fanclub. The whole package is lyrically slight but very gentle on the ear, particularly on the beautifully calming track 'To Be A Killer'.

The other tracks slot into this lilting melodic mould and ultimately it's far too one paced (slow). Aside from saying that it's a nice record there's little more to add.

Pleasant enough but more flyweight than heavyweight.
