Review: 'BECK'
'CHEMTRAILS'

-  Label: 'XL RECORDINGS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'March 2008'

Our Rating:
It’s hard to say what’s been so pleasing about the return of Beck this time. The ‘Modern Guilt’ album isn’t hugely different from previous releases, but for some reason I’ve found myself appreciating him for the first time. And developing further respect for album producer Danger Mouse.

‘Chemtrails’ is a whimsical song; dreamy in the extreme as it swirls about with more than a hint of the psychedelic about it. The vocals are distant, and hard to decipher at times, but you get the impression it’s more about the feeling, man. This was released last summer, but I missed it at the time. Now the weather’s becoming more than pleasant, it’s time to revisit this.

It has many phases held together by the prominent drum parts which form the backbone of it, from the main verse-chorus song part, to the prolonged noodling guitar outro. ‘Chemtrails’ inspires you to get lost, in a nice way.
