From the press release, Welsh rockers Attack Attack look to be making the right references and have the kind of credentials that would make them cool in an alternative kind of a way. As they explain, the inspiration for this number was an interview with Kurt Cobain. And what’s more, they’ve got a song featured on the forthcoming Guitar Hero game. Rock ‘n’ Roll!
Alas, while the (purloined) lyrics aren’t bad (‘Honesty didn’t get me anywhere / I know ‘cause I read it in your diary’), sonically they’re more early Foo Fighters or Bivouac than Nirvana. It’s rather upbeat and poppy, and the delivery’s a little clean-cut sounding. There’s no real edge, and no sense of rage or angst here. It’s catchy enough, but lacks serious bite.

Sure, the guitars are solid enough, but a little backed off in relation to the vocals, and the production simply lacks balls. All of which means that ‘Honesty’ has mass commercial potential, the song will probably be an immense hit and Attack Attack will be massive, beloved by both rock kids and suits who like to think they’re cool.
