Review: 'LOYAL TROOPER'
'THE DOCTOR'

-  Label: 'www.myspace.com/loyaltrooper'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'June 2009'

Our Rating:
As male singer-songwriters go, Loyal Trooper (aka Andy Walker) is pretty engaging. ‘The Doctor’ is a heartfelt ballad, an allegorical narrative of a romance gone wrong. The lyrics are personal, sounding much more like a letter than a love song, and there’s interest in the story being told.   It progresses nicely enough at a mid-tempo pace, with (so says the press release) Tibetan hand cymbals being included towards the end, and doesn’t make the mistake of repeating to fade to the point of boredom.

I’m not a massive fan of this sort of balladeering, but I can see the merit in this song. The slightly subverted percussion suggests experimentation and a certain potential. You feel like something has been shared and that’s rewarding – it’s far beyond bland sentiment and generic emotion. Nice.
