It’s a promising start: jittery, anxious drums preface a choppy minor-key guitar riff reminiscent of Radio 4. The bass grooves along with an enticing mix of funk and urgency. The verse builds a nice tension and I’m getting that feeling of excitement in anticipation of a killer chorus and... oh. Oh. Oh dear. What’s this? The vocals go sort of falsetto and the wrists go a bit limp and what happened to the angularity, the angst?
It’s a shame, because there’s a cracking tune under there, and a searing guitar break in the middle. Yes, it’s radio-friendly and I can see The Guilty Hands being huge, but I can’t help but feel that it’s a bit of a cop-out.
