What to say about this five-track EP from Hampshire-based pop-rockers Not Advised? Hmm. Guitars. Energy. Pop-rock. Yeah! There’s no shortage of jumping around, punching the air exuberance across this short sharp outing. But there’s absolutely no sense of shock. By which I mean there are no surprises to be found here. There’s nothing that really makes any of the tracks on here leap out and make a lasting impression, or leave a mark that’s uniquely Not Advised.
‘Fight for This’ is the sound of five guys having fun. Perhaps they should have less fun: opener ‘Red Light Situation’ implies danger in its title. Rather disappointingly, as guitarist jack explains, ‘it’s about a red engine management light which comes on in our van meaning we have to pull over on the hard shoulder and restart the van.’ Oh. Yeah, it’s a hard life.
