Our Rating:
I must confess to having had something of a Beavis and Butthead moment when I bunged this in the CD player. Yes! This rocks! ‘That Golden Rule’ blasts in with a solid guitar riff that comes full-throttle from the speakers. Proper, driving, sweaty rock.

The chorus comes as a bit of a let-down as they ease off the gas and take things down a notch, sounding rather like the Foo Fighters while they’re at it. Thankfully, the big guitars are back in no time, and what’s more, ‘That Golden Rule’ is no standard verse / chorus / middle eight / chorus ad nauseam number. Somewhere around the midway point, the track takes a sharp diversion. Strings sweep in to dramatic effect, adding a grandiose quality to the meaty guitars that continue to burn as the song surges on through the closing minute an instrumental orchestral / rock number.

It’s ambitious, for sure, and impressively, they manage to pull it off. Mon the Biffy indeed.
