Night Herons hail from the Leeds / Bradford area, and have been getting out and about live a fair bit recently. This three-tracker is their first demo, and to be honest, it's not bad. 'Bury Your Head' has an insistent electro groove that's cut through with a gritty guitar. It's both very early 80s - not only in terms of sound, but also production - and very Leeds. Not goth, but there are definitely darker shadows being cast
'In Red' boasts a disco rhythm and is more bass-led with a toppy, choppy guitar driving it along, the synths backed off to create space and depth within the sound. Yes, it's very post-punk, and it's also well executed.
Closer 'Systematic Error' takes a turn for the ska during the verses before the guitars and keyboards conspire to forge a soaring chorus that wouldn't be uncomfortable on an Editors album, only with female vocals.
It's early days yet for Night Herons, but this is without doubt a promising start.
